HALL OF FAME FLIES FLAGS AT HALF-STAFFFOR BROADCASTER COL. BOB SHERIDAN

CANASTOTA, NY – OCTOBER 2, 2023 – The International Boxing Hall of Fame

announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of broadcaster Col. Bob Sheridan, who passed away on September 27th at the age of 79.



“Col. Bob Sheridan’s 50-year career behind the microphone is highlighted by his passion for boxing that came through in each fight he called,” said Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame offers our condolences to the Sheridan family and joins the boxing world in mourning his passing.”


Born on Boston on June 22, 1944. Sheridan’s life-long love affair with boxing began as a youngster watching Friday Night Fights. During his five decade career Sheridan has called blow-by-blow for over 10,000 fights, including nearly 1,000 world title bouts and 100 heavyweight title fights. Beginning in 1974 he broadcast all international telecasts for Don King Productions. As the lead broadcaster for international feeds of major fights, he is known the world over and called ringside action from more than 100 countries.


Sheridan has called fights involving Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson among countless others. In 1998, he won the BWAA Sam Taub Award for “Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.”


In 2016, Sheridan was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
