FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF FOR PUBLICIST /MATCHMAKER / PROMOTER BOBBY GOODMAN

CANASTOTA, NY - MARCH 8, 2023  - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of publicist, matchmaker and promoter Bobby Goodman, who passed away on March 5th at the age of 83

“Bobby Goodman devoted his entire life to the sport of boxing and worked with countless legends of the ‘sweet science’ during his Hall of Fame career,” said Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame offers our condolences to the entire Goodman family and joins the boxing world in mourning his passing.”


The son of Hall of Fame publicist Murray Goodman, he began working in boxing assisting his father with publicity for the 1952 Kid Gavilan vs.Gil Turner welterweight title bout. The Goodmans formed their own advertising firm, Murray Goodman Associates, and handled public relations for major bouts involving Ken Norton, Bob Foster, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali and big events for Top Rank, Main Events and Don King Productions (DKP). Goodman worked as Director of Public Relations, Matchmaker and Vice President of Boxing Operations for DKP for twenty five years. He was also Senior Vice President and Head of Boxing at Madison Square Garden and established his own promotional company, Garden State Boxing. He was awarded the 1979 BWAA James J. Walker Award for Long and Meritorious Service to Boxing.


In 2009, Goodman was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
