Paddington Tom Jones

Born in Paddington, London in 1766. Jones began his career in 1786 and would fight and beat all comers in his weight division. Although he weighed 145 pounds, Jones routinely fought heavier men. In 1799 he lost in 33 minutes to 185-pound heavyweight champion Jem Belcher.
He is credited with having fought more bouts and seconded more pugilists than any person before him. Jones was also master of ceremonies at the Fives and Tennis Courts, overseeing sparring exhibitions.
He died in Paddington on August 22, 1833 at age 67.
