Lorraine Chargin
Born: Dec. 4, 1930
Died: April 6, 2010
Induction: 2018
Born Lorraine Adrienne Le Francois on December 4, 1930 in New Haven, CT.
For nearly five decades, Chargin, working in concert with her husband, Don, co-promoted thousands of boxing shows, and they were particularly responsible for the booming Sacramento-area boxing scene. Under the Don Chargin Productions banner, Don was the matchmaker and face of the company while Lorraine worked the business side, handling all financial and logistical specifics such as box office / ticketing, media credentials, boxer camp coordination and building management. Her first foray into boxing was doing publicity for the 1962 Gene Fullmer vs. Dick Tiger bout in San Francisco. From 1964 until 1984, the Chargins worked for Hall of Famer Aileen Eaton at the venerable Olympic Auditorium with Lorraine as the building manager and Don as the matchmaker, presenting such bouts as Sugar Ramos vs. Mando Ramos in 1970. While at the Olympic, the Chargins still ran their own shows in Sacramento and when Don’s Olympic responsibilities made him unavailable, Lorraine handled promotions on her own. The Chargins guided the careers of Pete Ranzany, Tony “The Tiger” Lopez, Loreto Garza, Willie Jorin and Hall of Famer Bobby Chacon.
Chargin passed away on April 6, 2010 at age 79 following a battle with cancer.
