Born Charles Robert Hull on March 1, 1924 in Jacksonville, IL.

His first championship fight was the May 1960 welterweight title fight between Benny “Kid” Paret and Don Jordan. One of the most famous ring announcers of the late 1970s and 1980s, he worked all of the title contests at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas until 1989. Among the high profile bouts he called from center ring were Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns I, Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns, Larry Holmes vs. Gerry Cooney and Muhammad Ali vs. Larry Holmes. He was also the boxing ring announcer for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Renowned for his classy and understated approach to announcing, with a resonant voice, impeccable diction, thick shock of silver hair and trademark tailored tuxedo look, he was one of boxing’s most iconic ring announcers. A consummate professional, he retired in 1995 with over 130 world championship bouts to his credit.

Hull, who also worked in the gaming business for over 44 years, passed away on February 15, 2000 at his home in Las Vegas at age 75.
